Baicalin has become one of the most popular nutraceuticals of our era. The root of Scutellaria is one of Asias most revered herbs, used for over 2,000 years. The root is rich in baicalin, a highly protective natural ingredient. This product contains 125 mg of Baicalin per capsule in a base of whole Scutellaria baicalensis extract. The Scutellaria extract contains Scutellaria total flavonoids which may support neuronal functions, plus many other constituents found in raw Scutellaria. Baicalin is currently being used to support neurological and cognitive functions, among other uses. Baicalin appears to involve intestinal microflora for its metabolism into baicalein, the most active metabolite of baicalin. Baicalin is calming. Baicalin in the blood can cross the blood brain barrier, although it does not appear to be at the same concentration in the brain and the blood. Baicalin activates AMPK, an enzyme that plays a role in cellular energy homeostasis. Since this product is made with both purified baicalin and with Scutellaria baicalensis extract, it contains all the constituents of Scutellaria baicalensis. Scutellaria extract has shown memory supporting properties.
